Labour Councillors
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council
What we do. Your Labour Councillors work hard to represent you with individual issues and cases, but also collectively across Tunbridge Wells Borough Council (TWBC).
We currently have 5 Labour Councillors represented at TWBC –
- Di Hill in High Brooms,
- Alex Britcher-Allen and Jayne Sharratt in Rusthall, Langton Green and Speldhurst,
- Vic Jones and Hugo Pound in Sherwood.
Your Councillors sit on a variety of committees and work with officers to ensure that services are delivered and Tunbridge Wells is a great place to live.
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council (TWBC) is responsible for a number of things, like:
- Affordable social housing
- Licensing
- Bin collections, recycling and street cleaning
- Planning applications
- Anti-social behaviour (noise complaints)
These are some of the issues that come up most often, but you can find all of the details of what TWBC is responsible for on their website www.tunbridgewells.gov.uk
Where there are issues – like potholes or the state of the roads (which came up once or twice on the doorstep!) – that don’t come under the work TWBC does, we can add weight to your voice and champion the needs of local residents with other organisations – like Kent County Council, who are responsible for the roads.
Our role as your Borough Councillors is to speak up on your behalf and support our local community to thrive. From the hundreds of conversations we’ve had on the doorstep over the last few months (and years!), it’s clear to us that there are a number of priorities that we’re all keen to focus on, the link in with the Tunbridge Wells Labour Party borough manifesto. These are things like:
- Improving the quality and affordability of homes, particularly social housing
- Lobbying for more community activities and hubs, including using our community spaces and the only remaining Family Hub in Sherwood
- Tackling anti-social behavior and littering across the borough
- Lobbying for proactive, local action to combat climate change
We’ll be using our voices at council meetings and more broadly to push for change in these areas, but we’re keen to hear from you too – Labour voter or not! If you have a local issue we can help you with, you can contact us at: tunbridgewellslabour@gmail.com
